Our congratulations go to the students representing school with outstanding performances in the recent Northumberland County Badminton Championships.
The boys team won the championships while the girls team were runners up.
Both teams travelled to the Tyneside Badminton Centre for the County Championship. The girls were first to play as our team of Emily A, Katie A, Evie C and Reema R would take on Kings Priory in their first game. Some excellent matches ensued with very tight fixtures both in the singles and doubles; Ponteland eventually came out 3-2 winners. The second game would prove to be a little tougher against Newcastle School for Girls. The opposition won the match 5-0. The result from the earlier game would see our girls finish runners up in the Northumberland competition so congratulations to all four who were excellent throughout.
The boys faced St Thomas Moore of North Shields in their first encounter. The team consisted of: Oliver H, Jude W, Matthew D, Ayaan F and Adam S would be a tough match for anyone. That proved to be the case as the boys would comfortably win 5-0 in their first game. The second game was against a tough Dame Allan’s side who themselves had beaten St Thomas More earlier in the day. The Ponteland team again put on an incredible performance winning 5-0 and not dropping a game as they went on to be crowned County Champions. This was a fantastic achievement and testament to the hours of practice and dedication they put in each week.
Mr Paul Dunn (Head of PE) said, “I was extremely proud of both teams in the way they conducted themselves throughout both competitions. It has been great to get some competitive Badminton competition back up and running and this was a wonderful reward for the students who have attended clubs both inside and outside of school. The standard was very high and we are delighted with the results and the performances of all team members.”
