On Wednesday 24 March, Ponteland High School held a presentation event to celebrate the achievements of our fantastic entrants and winners of Northumberland County Council’s ‘International Women’s Awards’.
We were delighted to welcome our special guest speaker, Dr Sarah Ralph-Lane, a Senior Lecturer from Northumbria University who inspired the students with an engaging and uplifting talk. Dr Ralph-Lane spoke about her experience founding the ‘Girl Kind North East’ programme, which encourages and facilitates local young women to have the space and resources to make their voice heard.
Twelve of our brilliant students were presented with certificates and books to thank them for their participation in the event:
- Leila, Lily, Nina and Chloe in Year 7 and Anna and Rachel in Year 12 crafted brilliant stories about women in Northumberland
- Ava, Lyza, Alice and Jay in Year 8 created wonderful pieces of art in different mediums to depict inspirational women from the local area
- Polly and Amelia in Year 13 were honored as amazing, talented and outstanding young women as they jointly won the ‘Northumberland Inspirational Young Woman Award 2021’.
Polly, Amelia, Anna and Chloe will also receive further prizes from Northumberland County Council.
After such a difficult year, it was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of the students of Ponteland High School and to encourage them to consider how they can continue to make a difference with their commitment and create a sense of community spirit.
Following the event, Dr Ralph-Lane tweeted: ‘Absolutely thrilled to be asked to speak about GirlKindNE and give prizes to award winners at Pont High today. Such incredibly inspirational young women – can’t wait to see what they achieve next!’
